Opinion essay about school uniform

Nowadays, some people claim that all students must wear a school uniform. However, others think that they should decide what to wear to school themselves.

Personally, I believe that a school uniform should be required to wear at school. There are a few reasons why I support the idea of introducing a school uniform. Firstly, school authorities often face a complicated task setting a dress code. That is why it may be easier to have a uniform than to detail and specify independently chosen clothing. Secondly, parents often spend much money on teenagers’ clothes following their interest in fashion and pressure. Therefore, school uniforms refocus this issue. Finally, wearing school uniform emphasises membership and group identity, fostering school and community spirit.

On the other hand, many people argue that students should not wear school uniforms. They say that they interfere with students’ rights for self-expression. Consequently, teenagers cannot express their tastes and personality. Moreover, it is not good for their self-esteem due to the fact that they have to wear something unattractive.

I cannot fully agree with them on account that a school uniform helps students to be more disciplined and pay more attention to their studies than to the fact who is the most fashionable and richest.

In conclusion, it seems to me that there are both advantages and disadvantages of wearing a school uniform. I am convinced that it should be compulsory for students.
