“Screen break: a digital-free family holiday in Portugal” by Trish Lorenz
The article
“Screen break: a digital-free family holiday in Portugal” written by Trish
Lorenz is devoted to the discussion of the problem of screen addiction. This
problem becomes more and more disturbing nowadays. First, the author draws the
readers' attention to the problem of children's preference being online instead
of being outside and spending time with a family.
The perfect
day of nine-year-old boy is closely connected with different gadgets. When his
mother tells him about her plan – to spend a four-night family holyday without
wifi and TV – the kid worries that it will be boring for him.
Family
comes to Cerdeira Village in Portugal, a beautiful place surrounded by forests
and high mountains. They find different ways to make fun there. They dance,
play a board game, make dinner together etc. They spend time at the open air.
The nine-year-old even makes a new friend. In order to “change of scene” they
visit the nearby university city of Coimbra and the Biological Park of the
Lousã Mountains. Mostly, the boy plays and explores new places, rarely
complaining about being without his tablet.
1) Why do children
prefer spending their time with gadgets instead of friends and family?
2) How can gadgets
harm the children’s health?
3) Is it possible
for parents to make their children stay away from gadgets?

Hello, Anastasia!
ОтветитьУдалитьI have a couple of questions to you:
1) How much time do you spend using gadgets?
2) Do you try to spend as much or more time outdoors?
3) Do you think some prohibitions on using gadgets can help to get rid of this addiction?
Hello, Roma!
Удалить1) About 4-5 hours per day.
2) I try to spend as much time outdoors as it possible.
3) I don't think that prohibitions can help to get rid of this problem. I suppose we should try to find alternative way to intertain ourselves without using gadgets.
