Advantages and Disadvantages of Having a Dog
Advantages and Disadvantages of Having a Dog
Nowadays more and more people suffer from
loneliness. Some people can’t find friends because of their shyness, others are
afraid of conflicts or treachery, etc. Fortunately, there is a great solution
of this problem. As everyone knows, a dog is the best friend of a man. That’s
why I’d like to discuss pros and cons of having a dog. Our pets help us to be
more communicative, they have a positive impact on our health, but there are
people who think that having a dog can bring only problems.
Firstly, a dog can help you to make new
friends. Walking with your puppy every day, you will soon meet many other
dog-owners. Most of them are always ready to talk about their pets and discuss
some funny story. It means that you don’t need to suffer trying to find an
interesting subject for conversation. That is why dogs make people to be more
communicative.
Secondly, dogs promote you to maintain your
mental and physical health. Many researchers say that having a dog help people
to fight with depression and panic attacks. Pets give their owners an
opportunity to feel loved and necessary. Luisa Dillner in her article “Is
owning a dog good for your health?” writes that dog-owners are less tend to
have a risk of heart diseases because they are more active. ( L. D. (2017,
December 4). Is owning a dog good for your health? Is Owning a Dog Good for
Your Health? Retrieved from https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2017/dec/04/is-owning-a-dog-good-for-your-health)
On the other hand, many people say that dogs
bring only problems. After the walking they are dirty and need to be washed.
They molt and their hair is everywhere. If you need to leave your home for a certain
period of time, you will have to find someone to take care of your pet. Moreover,
dogs don’t live as long as people do. The death of a beloved dog is always a
great shock for the owner. That’s the biggest disadvantage of having a dog.
To sum it up, I’d like to say that having a
dog has more advantages than disadvantages.
W. Bruce Cameron says, “When we adopt a dog or any pet, we know it is
going to end with us having to say goodbye, but we still do it. And we do it
for a very good reason: They bring so much joy and optimism and happiness.” I absolutely
agree with his words. If you feel lonely, I advise you to adopt a dog.
